St Martins AC have submitted an entry into the FA Vase competition for the 2009-2010 season. The closing date for all entries was 1 April 2009. The competition is for teams playing at Steps 5 to 7 of the national league system. There are stringent requirements for entry, and all home games must be played at the club’s home ground and not at an alternative venue that meets the requirements. Saints have submitted an application for FA funding to improve its floodlights and hope for approval to be granted imminently.
Saints coach Colin Fallaize said “This is an exciting opportunity for the club on the back of an exciting start to 2009 in terms of the standards the players are now setting themselves. I know from previous experience that in order for us to compete in the FA Vase the players will have to improve themselves dramatically, and I have laid down the challenge to them to do so”.
President Henry Davey, who has also played in the competition, said “The entry confirms our commitment to drive the club forward and improve the standard of football as far as we are able. All things being well we will be upgrading the floodlights over the summer to further improve our already excellent facilities. We have also made big strides in improving our minis and youth set-ups and hope that what we are trying to achieve at a senior level we give our younger players something to aspire to”.The club now awaits the FA’s decision on the entry, as the competition rules state that entries from clubs affiliated to offshore associations will be considered on an annual basis.
